New Bugatti CEO Admits Galibier Super Saloon Launch Pushed Back Due to “Slow Progress”

The VW Group likes to shuffle its executives among its brands. Maybe that’s Volkswagen's way of making sure that they don’t become complacent; or perhaps it wants them to transfer their experience to their new post.

Whatever the reason, Woflgang Durheimer, the chairman of both Bentley and Bugatti has moved on to Audi. His replacement is Wolfgang Schreiber, the former Bugatti technical chief and managing director.

Upcoming Bugatti 16C Galibier Saloon will get “Over 1,000bhp”

The Bugatti 16C Galibier concept was first revealed in late 2009 as a proposal for a second model (after the Veyron of course) in the Bugatti lineup. This four door, four seat super saloon car was boasted to be equally as impressive in terms of performance as its Veyron sibling.

As Bugatti CEO Wolfgang Durheimer sat down with Car&Driver, more details emerged on the upcoming model.

An Alternative Concept for a Bugatti Super Sedan by Dejan Hristov

We'll probably have to wait for a major international motor show to see what kind of "significant" design changes Bugatti has made to its original Galibier concept, as confirmed earlier this year by the brand's new CEO, Wolfgang Duerheimer, but in the meantime, here's a new design study for a Bugatti saloon that was sent to us by Dejan Hristov.

While a little rough on the edges, Hristov's Bugatti Super Sedan design concept proposes a different look that draws closer to the firm's Veyron 16.4 coupe than the Galibier showcar.

Bugatti Boss Says Galibier Hyper-Saloon on Track but Design has Changed "Significantly"

It's been a long time since we last heard about the upcoming Bugatti Galibier – in April 2011, to be precise when it was reported that the luxurious sports saloon received the green light for production from the VW Group's management.

But while the project seems to be on course, the new head of Bugatti Automobiles, Wolfgang Duerheimer, told Autocar Magazine that the Galibier's design has been "significantly altered".

“I will suggest we continue development, but there will be some remarkable changes from the original concept,” Durheimer told the British publication.

VW Group Reportedly Approves 1,000HP Bugatti 16C Galibier Sedan for Production

Bugatti has received approval from parent company Volkswagen to build the 16C Galibier sedan, according to a Bloomberg report quoting two people familiar with the matter. Show as a concept at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, the Galibier packs 1,000 horsepower under its hood and could cost around €1 million ($1.4 million), according to the inside sources.
