CAR Magazine Puts Together a Motley Crew in its Search for the World’s Best Car

Friday, December 28, 2012

Car of the year is so old hat; picking the world’s best car, on the other hand, is quite an ambitious undertaking. It’s an intriguing one, too, and probably that’s the reason CAR magazine decided to go ahead with it for their December 2012 issue cover story.

We bet the editors had a difficult time trying to narrow down the finalists to a reasonable number. In the end, they came up with five cars from different segments.

There’s a luxury SUV, a four-door, four-seat supercar, two luxury saloons and a two-door, four-seater supercar.

Thursday, December 27, 2012

Reverend Francis Cook was employed by Bentley for the past 10 years. Once a week, he visited the VW Group-owned luxury automaker’s factory in Crewe, England, and chatted to its employees, run Christian courses and written messages in the company’s newsletters.

Just a few days before Christmas (…), he was told that his services were no longer required and he should vacate the premises.

“The reason I have been given is that there are too many people of different faiths to warrant a Christian chaplain”, Cooke told UK daily newspaper The Mirror. “There have been no complaints made against me and my position is to help people, and not just those who are Christians.”

Bentley Continental GT Receives a Custom Touch by Vilner

You would think that a car that costs as much as a small house like the Continental GT series wouldn't need any interior renovations, especially since Bentley itself already offers its customers many personalization options, but there are always exceptions to the rule.

When a customer isn't satisfied with what Bentley has to offer or if he or she wants to redecorate their car after a few years of ownership, then the aftermarket industry comes into the picture.

All those fat cats out there might buying their Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Paganis or whatever they fancy but, let’s face it, these supercars are not really that practical to drive day in, day out. In fact, most of the privileged of this world don’t even get to drive on a regular basis like the rest of us do: they are chauffeured.

Motor Trend’s Jonny Lieberman says that the one thing the rich don’t have is time – so whatever free time they get, like when being in the back seat of their car, they want it to be special.

Last week's hurricane and then super-storm Sandy took its toll on cars in the Northeastern U.S., with the National Automobile Dealers Association estimating that as many as 200,000 vehicles may have been damaged or completely destroyed.

As is usually the norm in these situations, bad news for some means good business for others, such as towing companies in the affected areas that are summoned to clean up the mess left by Sandy, or in some cases, put the final nail in the coffin for damaged vehicles…

Like this towing operator who was captured on film dragging a Bentley Continental GTC convertible that could cost as much as $200,000 on the used car market, depending on its condition, on the dry streets of New York.

Sandy Takes Down Jalopnik, Huffington Post and a Bentley Continental Convertible

Tuesday, October 30, 2012

The devastating effects of Superstrom Sandy continue to create havoc on the eastern seaboard of the U.S. The storm, which has already claimed the lives of at least 16 people in the States and one in Canada, adding to an earlier toll of 67, has cut power to more than 7 million people and caused massive floods in many states.

In addition, Sandy brought down several popular websites in the New York area such as the entire Gawker family of blogs, which includes our friends over at Jalopnik, along with the The Huffington Post, Mediate and Buzzfeed.

The crew at Jalopnik, who are well in their health and are now posting through the blog's Facebook and Twitter accounts, and just moments ago, from live.Jalopnik.com as well, were still able to capture this shot of a Bentley Continental GTC Convertible, most likely in the streets or shall we say…river streams of New York City, in the early morning hours of Tuesday.

"I took these shots on my way into work on the M6 (About 15 miles away from the Bentley Factory in Crewe)," he told us.

"It looked like a Continental Flying Spur - but a lot of tape and a terrible S-Class grille taped to the front. It is obviously something under cover being tested - But what?"
