Last year, beginning with the Geneva motor show in March and continuing with the Los Angeles Auto Show in November, Nissan displayed a new concept model named the Hi Cross for a compact SUV.

Officially, Nissan said the Hi Cross offers a look at its new design language in the crossover segment.

However, due to its dimensions and the fact that the Japanese carmaker showed it on both sides of the Atlantic, we believe it may preview a common successor for the X-Trail, sold in Europe, Japan and other parts of the world, and the Rogue that is offered in North America.

Nissan Brings Hi-Cross Concept to LA, Says it Explores Future Crossover Design

If you're experiencing déjà vu looking at the pictures of the Nissan Hi-Cross Concept, it's because the Japanese carmaker displayed the study at the Geneva motor show in March this year to preview the next generation of the European market X-Trail SUV.

Nissan adds New N-Tec+ Trim to X-Trail's UK Range, On Sale Now at £27,790

The Nissan X-Trail has just welcome a new member in the United Kingdom with the addition of the N-Tec+ trim. According to the company, the new grade level it is positioned between the Acenta and flagship Tekna editions.

In the standard equipment list you will find features such as the Nissan Connect system with a five-inch touch screen navigation with Bluetooth connectivity, the Around View Monitor 360 degree parking system with color front, passenger and rear cameras, keyless entry and start and an electric sunroof.

Nissan's New Hi-Cross Hybrid Crossover Concept Could Replace the X-Trail

Having released only a single teaser image before the Geneva Motor Show, Nissan today lifted the wraps off its Hi-Cross Concept. According to the company, the Hi-Cross shows a possible new design direction for its next crossover which will join the Juke, Qashqai and Murano and most likely replace the X-Trail.

The Hi-Cross measures 4,660mm long, 1,850mm wide and 1,670mm tall. Thanks to its 2,780mm wheelbase, it has three rows of seats and can accommodate up to seven passengers.

Nissan to Tease Next Generation X-Trail with Hi-Cross Concept at the Geneva Motor Show

As the auto industry gears up for the rapidly approaching 82nd Geneva International Auto Show, Nissan released a single teaser photo and video footage of a new concept model called the Hi-Cross.

For now, the Japanese company is only willing to tell us that the Hi-Cross demonstrates how it is "exploring ideas to expand" its crossover lineup.

However, sources state that the Hi-Cross is a concept model for a new D-segment crossover that will replace the more rugged X-Trail SUV, following in the footsteps of the B-segment Juke and C-segment Qashqai, both of which have proved to be a success for Nissan.

New Nissan X-Trail Platinum Edition Brings Some Luxury Touches to UK Market Model

With the new UK market X-Trail Platinum Edition, Nissan is looking to up the luxury ante for its 4x4 model by adding extra equipment and certain styling touches that are not available on the rest of the range.

On the outside, the front and rear of the Platinum edition get extra protection with the fitment of protection plates located below the bumpers, while the profile is treated to chrome-plated side steps and door protection mouldings.

Nissan to Unveil Townpod EV Concept at Paris Show

At the 2010 Paris Motor Show, which opens on 30 September, Nissan will lift the wraps off a new electric car concept called the Townpod. The Japanese automaker will release full details at the show but for now, all we have about the concept model is this cropped photo of the front headlamp and Nissan's claims that "it combines eye-catching design with a spacious and practical interior," and that " it heralds a new-era of flexible, stylish vehicles that will bring electric-vehicle mobility to the masses."

Nissan Europe Refreshes X-Trail SUV, Sales Start in September

We already took our first look at the updated for 2011 X-Trail SUV with the introduction of the Japanese market model in the beginning of July, but now, Nissan has released details on the European market version that will arrive in showrooms in September (October for the UK).

The revised X-Trail benefits from some modest updates to the exterior styling, improved interior quality and functionality, as well as from mechanical and aerodynamic changes.

As you may (or may not...) notice from the pictures, the 2011 X-Trail has undergone very minor cosmetic surgery. Highlight include the redesigned grille, headlights and bumper assembly at the front, along with revised tail lamps that now incorporate LED light technology for the running lights and braking, restyled rear bumper and new 17- and 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in beefier tires.

2011 Nissan X-Trail SUV Facelift Breaks Cover in Japan

You're looking at the refreshed Japanese domestic market [JDM] version of the Nissan X-Trail, a compact SUV model sold in Europe, Japan and other parts of the world but not in the States. For the 2011MY, there's the subtlest of design tweaks, mainly to the front end and the interior, plus a new diesel version and equipment upgrades.

On the outside, the JDM 2011 X-Trail gains a redesigned front grille, front bumper and headlights, along with a reworked rear bumper and new LED tail lamps. There's also a new model called 'X-Tremer' boasting unique bumpers and alloy wheels.

In the interior, the X-Trail is spruced up with a redesigned instrument panel featuring larger dials and a new information display system, fresh colors and additional standard features.

Nissan to Begin Production of X-Trail and Teana Sedan in Russia

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and Nissan president Carlos Ghosn took part in the opening ceremony of the Japanese automaker's first plant in Russia on Tuesday. Located at St. Petersburg, Nissan's new US$200 million assembly plant has a production capacity of 50,000 vehicles a year. The facility, which is scheduled to employ 750 workers at start of production with one shift, will build the Teana mid-size sedan and the X-TRAIL compact off-roader.

"This is Nissan's breakthrough in Russia," said Ghosn. "The opening of our plant in Saint Petersburg in the current conditions underlines our confidence in the high potential of the Russian economy. With the start of production at our new plant Nissan become an integral part of the local community."

Even though the financial crisis has taken its toll on the Russian car market as sales plunged more than 40% in the first four months of the year compared to 2008 when Russia briefly overtook Germany as Europe's largest car market, many analyst believe that Russia will be a key growth market for automakers when a recovery starts.

Nissan X-Trail Clean Diesel Released in Japan

With the market launch of the new clean diesel X-Trail "20GT" on September 18, Nissan will become the second automaker to sell a diesel-powered vehicle in Japan. Up until now, the only brand offering a diesel car in Japan is Mercedes-Benz with its E320 CDI. The X-Trail is powered by the 2.0-liter M9R diesel equipped with a particulate filter and lean NOx trap catalysts delivering an output of 173 PS and maximum torque of 360Nm or 265-lbs/ft. Nissan says that the ‘20GT’ achieves a fuel-efficiency 35.7mpg US or 6.5 lt/100km representing an increase of about 30% in fuel economy over a 2.5-liter gasoline engine with the same output. -Continued

Moreover buyers in Japan will benefit from the lower price of diesel versus standard gasoline. The new clean diesel X-TRAIL 20GT is offered in Japan with standard ALL MODE 4x4i and 5-speed manual transmission with prices (including consumption tax) starting from 2,999,850 yen which is about $27,730 or €19,100.

Nissan X-Trail FCV Sets Fastest Lap for Fuel-Cell Vehicle at the ‘Ring

Ever since Nissan first announced the lap time of the all-new GT-R at the Nurburgring circuit, carmakers are going berserk with ‘Ring times; Porsche did it with the new 911 Carrera; GM did it with the Corvette ZR1 and the CTS-V and so did Renault with the Megane R26.R. Now Nissan has made a comeback by announcing the lap time of the X-Trail FCV (Fuel Cell Vehicle) that managed to turn the 20.8 km-long course in 11:58 minutes. Since Nissan is the first automaker to record an FCV lap on the famous circuit, the X-Track FCV is of course the fastest vehicle of its type… -Continued

“I was very surprised at just how comfortable it is to drive a fuel cell car. You get in, turn the key and off you go, just like with a normal car,” said Frank Eickholt, member of the Nissan 24 Hours Nürburgring race team and Nordschleife aficionado. “Although some of the uphill sections were challenging, the speed was still very impressive. If the course hadn’t been so wet, I could have gotten more momentum out of the curves. Thirty to 40 seconds could have been shaved off for sure,” he added.

The X-Trail FCV that is powered by electricity produced on board the vehicle, in a hydrogen fuel cell stack, has an official top speed of 150 km/h (93 mph) and a range of 500 km (310 miles). Maximum output is 120PS while maximum torque is 280Nm.

Nissan: 2008 Tokyo Auto Salon Exhibits

Nissan has released a photo gallery of its 2008 Tokyo Auto Salon offerings. In all, the Japanese carmaker will show off seven models including four concept versions, the Skyline Coupe Aerosports, the X-TRAIL "X-TREMER Package" Stretched, the Skyline Aero Package and the Dualis Premium (known in Europe as the Qasqhai) and two race cars, the XANAVI NISMO Z SUPER GT2007 and the ENDLESS ADVAN Z. Nissan X-Trail Arctix Sports Adventure

With winter showing its dark side in many countries, Nissan is marketing a new edition of the X-Trail in Great Britain, dubbed as the ‘ARCTIX Sports Adventure’. Based on the 2.0dCi X-TRAIL, the special version is offered either with a 6-speed automatic gearbox in which case, the diesel unit has an output of 150 PS or a 5-speed manual with a higher powered 173PS 2.0dCi unit. Despite the flashy name, the ‘ARCTIX Sports Adventure’ is simply an X-Trail with additional standard equipment including eXtreme roof rails and lamps with snowstorm side steps. -Continued

Trim and equipment details for the ‘ARCTIX Sports Adventure’ are similar to the X-Trail SPORT grade with 17 inch alloy wheels, panoramic sunroof, privacy glass, CD autochanger with 6 speakers, Bluetooth phone integration, climate control air conditioning, automatic headlamps and rain sensing wipers. Upholstery is a charcoal colored cloth weave whilst the exterior can be selected within a choice of six paint colors: Pearl White, Thundercloud, Twilight Grey, Ebisu Black, Atlas Blue and Chilli Pepper Red. Vehicles will be available in showrooms from 2 January 2008 with prices starting off at £21,995.

EuroNCAP: 2008 Nissan X-Trail Receives 4 Start Rating

Nissan’s second generation X-Trail SUV (details here) was awarded four stars out of a maximum five for adult, as well as child, occupant protection by the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP. According to EuroNCAP, while the X-Trail scored maximum points in the side impact and pole tests, in the front impact protection of the driver's neck was rated as 'weak' because of the extent to which it was bent backwards in the test. Also, structures in the dashboard presented a risk of injury to the knees and femurs of the driver and passenger. -Continued

In terms of pedestrian safety, the X-Trail received a mediocre two out of four stars. Euroncap notes that the front edge of the bonnet scored no points for its protection of pedestrians' legs while the bonnet offered predominantly poor protection to adults' heads.

It may come as a surspise, but in the compact SUV category, the majority of vehicles (2007 Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV-4, Suzuki Grand Vitara, Mitsubishi Outlander etc) have been awarded with four stars. The only models that have managed to get a five star rating are the 2007 Land Rover Freelander and the new Volkswagen Tiguan.
