Riding a Bicycle Backwards and Playing with Your Phone; What Could Possibly go Wrong?

Tuesday, February 5, 2013

The verdict on whether this incident was staged or not remains open, but we're going to assume that you will at least have a laugh or two after watching the video of a bicyclist riding backwards while texting on his cell phone.

Naturally, it didn't take long for a scooter (going suspiciously slow…) to appear on the road, and well, what you suspected from the beginning of the clip happened.

Monday, February 4, 2013

Last year, companies spent more than US$40 million lobbying Washington, D.C. decision makers – and according to watchdog Open Secrets, the biggest spender was the auto industry with US$6.3 million.

What is the industry lobbying for? Well, the automakers anticipate that distracted driving is soon going to become tomorrow’s CAFE; i.e. the next issue on the government’s agenda.

Game Over for Porsche 911 GT3 RS (?) at the Nürburgring

Saturday, February 2, 2013

Losing control and trashing your car on a wall while playing Gran Turismo or Forza Motorsport might be fun in a sadistic kind of way, but that's something you never, ever want to experience in real life on a track, or anywhere else, for that matter, even though, truth to be said, statistics are stacked against you…

The driver of what may or may or not be a Porsche 911 GT3 RS (it doesn't sound like one, if you want our opinion) was lapping the Nürburgring, accelerating to a speed of close to 200km/h (124mph) when at the Bergwerk corner, the car's rear end starts to slide, possibly after stepping on leaked water coolant.

Nothing to See Here, Keep on Driving

Friday, February 1, 2013

Being scared to death after watching a truck flip over right in front of you on the highway is completely human and understandable. What isn't, is when something like this occurs to you and you drive off into the sunset as if nothing happened.

Just look at this accident, which from what we understand, took place somewhere in Asia.

In Russia, an Accident is Never Really Over Until the Fat Lada Swings By...

Thursday, January 31, 2013

If you make it out alive and unhurt from one accident, you can consider yourself lucky, but if you do the same twice in the same instance, it's nothing short of a miracle.

This driver was travelling on the road (in Russia, according to the poster and one of the car's license plates) minding his own business when a Mitsubishi Lancer sedan coming from the opposite side lost traction and swerved into his lane.

Watch a Container Truck Fall Right in Front of One Very Lucky Motorcycle Rider

Wednesday, January 30, 2013

Rest assured, if the scooter rider featured in this clip had not been able to back up a couple of feet before the container truck tipped over, we wouldn't be showing you this video footage shot from a nearby security camera.

Then again, if he wasn't in such a hurry to sprint through the traffic light in front of the cars waiting on the zebra crossing, he wouldn't have found himself in this life-threatening position, would he…

Audi R8 Coupe Burns to the Ground During Mumbai Supercar Meeting

As it appears, Ferraris and Lamborghinis aren't the only mid-engine supercars to go up in flames. The same happened to an Audi R8 coupe that was trailing a phalanx of other supercars participating in the 'Parx Supercar Show 2013', in the city of Mumbai in India.

Predictably, many by-standers and passengers of other cars were filming the ride and were able to capture the moment when the Audi R8 started to smoke and the driver and his co-passenger jumped out to save themselves. Fortunately, no one was hurt.

Tuesday, January 29, 2013

Come on, just admit it, there's no reason to be ashamed; you missed watching all those whacky videos from Russia on CarScoop while we were fighting against Google's devious bureaucratic operations the past few days.

So, to make up for it, we plunged into the depths of YouTube dodging the expected and looking for the unexpected – fear not, you'll soon see for yourself what we mean by that.

One Mistake Leads to Multiple Crashes on Icy Highway

Wednesday, January 23, 2013

When you're on the highway and it's snowing, it's always a sensible idea to slow down and increase the distance from the cars in front of you, as you never know what lies ahead. As they say, better to be prepared than sorry.

If you don't adhere to this very simple rule, your chances of getting into an accident are exponentially greater.

Driver Plays Pinball on Cement Barriers and Flips Over

We all know that it only takes one split second of distraction or misjudgment to cause an accident on the road.

The driver featured in this dash-cam footage took an exit off the highway, seemingly a little too fast for his own good.

While entering the second turn, the car appears to oversteer smashing into the inner side of the road barrier, which sends it to the outer side before it finally flips over.

Oops…Parent on a Motorcycle Loses Child on the Road

Monday, January 21, 2013

Well, if yougsters can fall off from cars, then we have to assume that you won't be the least surprised to learn that this can happen with motorcycles as well.

As the laws from country to country differ widely, we don't know if placing a child behind you on a motorcycle or a scooter is legal, but it goes without saying that riders should be extra cautious when doing so.

The motorcyclist seen in this dashcam footage, which was reportedly filmed in Japan, didn’t notice that the kid fell off the bike at the traffic light until he was several hundred feet away. Luckily, the youngster was able to get up by himself and run across the road to safety….

What Goes Up on a Steep, Icy Road, Must Come Down…

Friday, January 18, 2013

The great English physicist Isaac Newton famously described gravity by stating, "What goes up, must come down" after watching the fall of an apple from a tree, or at least that's what we're told in his biography written by one of his contemporaries, William Stukeley.

Perhaps if Newton lived today and had an addiction for dashcam videos, he may have come to the same conclusion simply by observing Russians driving on steep roads during the winter season.

This is Not Something You Want to See in Front of You on a Highway….

Thursday, January 17, 2013

We know what some of you may be thinking; "Ah, another crazy day in Russia". Well, if you are, you're wrong, because this dashcam footage was filmed on a highway in Las Vegas.

And while it was an extremely close call, the kind where if one minor detail would have been different, the person driving the vehicle would have been either seriously hurt or even killed, the retired police officer and former race car driver and airline pilot (among other things), who we come to know under his YouTube alias Sidewinder, lived to tell the tale.

Dumb and Bumper: See What Happens When Newbies Try to Pull out a Jeep from a Lake

One of the first things they teach you about pulling / towing a vehicle is to stay as far away as possible from the chain or rope. Then they will tell you that there's a hook placed on both ends of a vehicle where you should connect the strap.

Well, these experienced trail trackers from Brazil, did none of the above. What they did is tie a rope around the around the corner of one their Wrangler's rear bumper, with two men standing right next to the Jeep as it was trying to free the other vehicle.

And surprise, surprise...the bumper broke off whacking one of the men in the head, fortunately, non-fatally, though, it could have easily gone the other way.

Google Shot the Street View, But Did it Kill this Donkey in Botswana?

Wednesday, January 16, 2013

Technology can work miracles, and earn billions, for you, as Google has found out. The Mountain View-based multinational corporation found out that even your own tech can turn against you and land you in hot waters.

No, the Googleplex hasn’t suddenly become self-aware and decided to turn against its creators; it’s something a bit more bizarre involving Google Maps, Botswana and a donkey lying in the middle of the street.

Allow us explain: on Tuesday, Twitter used @TheRealSheldonC (apparently a Big Bang Theory fan) tweeted an image of a donkey lying on a road in Botswana and looking pretty much dead or injured.

BMW 1-Series Nürburgring Racer Crashes, Goes up in the Air

Sunday, January 13, 2013

In recent years, the widespread availability of affordable, on-board cameras, have offered us a first person view of many accidents that take place at the Nürburgring racetrack each year during public sessions.

One such mishap on the 'Ring involving a BMW 1-Series hatch (we can't make out the model from the clip) was recorded on film by the camera of a car that was following from behind.

In the footage, we see the 1-Series first chasing and then overtaking a BMW 6-Series Coupe before the driver loses control of the hatch, which spins and smashes into the protective barrier, sending it into the air.

Hip Driver Showing Off his "Sporty" Lexus Crashes into a Juke…

We’ll need the help of our bilingual readers to translate what is being said in the featured video, which we're told was shot in Russia, but we do know that a) the car is a Lexus and b) the hipster behind the wheel utters the words "sport" and shortly after, "stop, stop, stop".

Our guess is that the young man in the driver's seat was demonstrating his ride's acceleration capabilities to one of his friends, and at the same time, his own inability to judge when and where one should speed on the road.
