It's Good to be Alive: Incredibly Lucky Pedestrians

Wednesday, January 30, 2013

Not that life is easier for pedestrians residing in Russia and its neighboring countries during warmer seasons, but understandably, it's far more dangerous to try to walk across any road in the harsh winter weather conditions.

Here were have two separate incidents involving pedestrians and cars, with a fortunate outcome, at least for the former.

You Won't Believe How Lucky this Pedestrian was, but Neither will he…

Monday, January 21, 2013

Every man has his day in luck. For this old chap, Lady Luck paid a visit and hovered over, or shall we say, around him, as he was crossing the road.

A driver of an old sedan that looks like its from Russia, who had just passed the pedestrian crossing sign, was forced to slam and block his brakes, inadvertently turning the car around to avoid hitting the man.

Remember What Mom Said? Always Look Both Ways Before Crossing the Road…

Friday, January 18, 2013

Even as kids, we're taught by our parents and schoolteachers that we should always look both ways before crossing the road and never take chances. Better safe than sorry, as they say. Sadly, some adults still don't understand the concept.

A young woman in the city of Astrakhan in the southern European part of Russia, tried to dash across the road at the same time that a bus was coming from the other side.

In Russia, Even Cats Stand Their Ground on the Road…

Thursday, January 10, 2013

We've seen many instances where pedestrians stand their ground in Russia while crossing the road, sometimes peacefully, other times with violent outbursts to get their point across or perhaps just to relieve the daily stress.

But as it turns out, it's not only humans that won't budge sometimes, as certain members of the animal kingdom do the same, as evidenced by this video from a dashboard mounted camera.

Another Curious Incident from Asia

Wednesday, January 9, 2013

Move out of the way Russia, the rest of Asia wants a piece of the dash-cam pie. Following on from a strange incident that we showed you on Tuesday, here's another one that pegs the question of 'what the heck just happened here'.

All we can tell you is that a man wearing a safety vest, who looks like he was part of a team of road workers, does a Michael Jackson-esque dance move before lying flat down on the road in front of the car with the recording equipment.

Another Russian Pedestrian Stands His Ground, But is the Driver at Fault?

Tuesday, January 8, 2013

In the day and age of dashboard cameras, Russian drivers disregarding pedestrian crossings and signs are nothing new, but we're not exactly sure if the person steering the car in this incident is at blame.

We say this due to the frozen road conditions and the lack of additional details, as for all we know, the driver may have tried to stop progressively.

Stand Your Ground, the Russian Pedestrian Edition

Thursday, December 27, 2012

Florida's 'Stand Your Ground' law, which gained national attention after the high profile shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, states:

"A person who is not engaged in an unlawful activity and who is attacked in any other place where he or she has a right to be has no duty to retreat and has the right to stand his or her ground and meet force with force, including deadly force if he or she reasonably believes it is necessary to do so to prevent death or great bodily harm to himself or herself or another or to prevent the commission of a forcible felony."

We don't know if there's a similar law for pedestrians in Smolensk Oblast in Russia, but this man sure knows how to 'stand his ground' when drivers disregard the signs and don't slow down to let people cross the road. See what happened in the video that follows the break.

Belarusian Grandma Feeling Invincible, Doesn't Even Flinch

Friday, December 21, 2012

We've scolded drivers for not giving way to pedestrians in the past, though, foot-travelers should also keep a visual lookout for oncoming vehicles, especially under harsh weather conditions.

We can't say for sure who's at fault here since the covered up grandma (according to the poster) from Minsk seems to have a green light, but so do the cars coming from the other side of the road.

This Guy Doesn't Fool Around with Drivers Who Ignore Pedestrians

Monday, November 26, 2012

Some…or rather scratch that…a lot of drivers from Russia and the other former countries of the Soviet Union have been caught on film by dashboard cameras completely disregarding pedestrians on the road.

Those who make it across the road alive and well, more often than not, simply go on their way, but there are some pedestrians who let's just say, take punishment in their own hands or feet…

Ой Россия…Night of the Playing Dead

Saturday, November 10, 2012

Many drivers from Russia and the surrounding countries must surely be thanking the technology gods for the widespread availability of dashboard cameras.

It's not only cars and other motorists they have to worry about, as pedestrians looking to make a quick buck by pretending that they were the victims of a crash are also quite common, as you have no doubt seen before.

Drivers' Random Acts of Kindness Restore Faith in Russian Humanity

Friday, November 9, 2012

If it's not an amazing save, if not all, most of the rest of the videos sourced from Russia that end up on the internet show the dark or the incompetent side of drivers in the country.

We are fully aware that this is not the case for all Russian motorists who often get a bad rap because of what many of their fellow drivers do or not do on the road.

Here's A New Candidate for Idiot Driver of the Year

Wednesday, November 7, 2012

We have seen drivers speed through pedestrian crossings like there's no tomorrow before, but this incident really takes the cake and it's purely a miracle that no one was killed.

Filmed on November 5, 2012 (the YouTube poster says the date on the video is wrong) in the city of Tashkent, which is the capital of Uzbekistan, we see a group of cars slowing down at a pedestrian crossing to let a man walk through.

The Force Must be Strong with this One to Make Russian Drivers Stop at a Crosswalk…

Friday, October 26, 2012

As it turns out, there is only one person in the universe who has a force strong enough within him to make Russian drivers (cough, cough) on both sides of the road (!!!) stop at a pedestrian crossing.

And yes, you guessed it; we are talking about Darth Vader, the evil, black-clad wizard of the Star Wars galaxy who was captured on camera in full suit walking across a road in the Russian city of Belgorod.

Chuck Norris Approved: How to Survive as a Pedestrian on Russian Roads

Monday, October 22, 2012

It's a very well documented fact (through thousands of hours of footage obtained from dashboard-mounted cameras) that a large proportion of Russian drivers don't pay attention nor do they yield to pedestrians when they seem them crossing the road.

From the first few seconds of this video it becomes instantly clear that the driver is going way too fast for a heavily trafficked and fairly populated area, and that an accident is imminent.
