Spy Shots: This is the Revamped 2014 Buick LaCrosse Sedan

Friday, December 28, 2012

Back in September, just before the Paris Motor Show kicked off, General Motors came out with an announcement saying that over the next 12 months, its Buick brand is set to receive five new or refreshed models.

Among the cars including in the list were the Enclave and Encore crossovers, and the 250hp Verano Turbo that we've already seen, and the Regal and LaCrosse sedans.

We still have to wait and see what Buick has in store for the Regal, but as far as the LaCrosse is concerned, these spy shots of a camouflage-free prototype found in China, pretty much tell us the cosmetic story.

Ford Comes in Second Last in Consumer Reports’ 2012 Auto Reliability Survey [w/Video]

Monday, October 29, 2012

Two years ago, Ford was included in the Top 10 of Consumer Reports’ (CR) annual reliability survey, with more than 90 percent of its range rated average or better.

In the 2012 survey, however, you’ll have to look a long way down to find the Blue Oval: it occupies the next-to-last place as it finished 27th out of 28 brands rated, and its Lincoln luxury division is just one place ahead.

"Ford's bumpy road can be seen in the numbers. Sixty percent of Ford-branded models and half of Lincolns were below average in predicted reliability and none placed above average," said Jake Fisher, director of automotive testing for Consumer Reports.

GM Wants to be the Best in Customer Loyalty, Gain More than US$4 Billion Annually

The Holy Grail in any industry is customer loyalty. All manufacturers are fighting to improve their retention rate, that is, the percentage of customers who, when the time comes to replace a product, will remain loyal to the brand.

The automotive industry is no different. In the U.S. market, the current leader is Toyota, with a 58 percent retention rate. General Motors’ percentage is around 52-53 percent, close to the automotive industry average. Clearly, GM execs think that this should change; and there’s a very good reason for that.

Software Glitch Causes Delays in Deliveries of Certain 2012-2013 GM Models Including Cadillac ATS

Monday, September 10, 2012

General Motors may have increased its US sales in August by 10 percent compared to the same month in 2011, but last Wednesday it notified its dealers to stop deliveries of some of its most popular models.

The reason is a software glitch on the OnStar communication system that affects the 2013 Chevrolet Cruze, Equinox and Volt, the Cadillac ATS, SRX and XTS, the Buick Verano plus the GMC Terrain.

GM spokesman Alan Adler said that the issue has been identified as the system failing to alert the OnStar call center in an accident that the vehicle’s airbags are not deployed, like a rear-end collision.

Spy Shots: Opel's New Astra-Based Convertible Takes Final Shape Ahead of Paris Debut

Wednesday, August 1, 2012

Up until now, Opel and Vauxhall engineers had been seen working on unfinished, test mules of the upcoming Astra-based convertible model with framed doors and other non-production parts.

Now, our spies were finally able to spot a camouflaged prototype of the open-top model wearing its production body including the electrically operated ragtop.

You may have noticed that we're constantly using the term 'Astra-based', the reason being that while the new Opel model is built on the current Astra replacing the previous Astra TwinTop, company officials have said that the four-seater convertible will gain a new and bespoke name - much like VW's Golf-based Eos.

Opel and its sister company Vauxhall will market the new convertible model as a more premium proposal than its predecessor, despite that fact that it gets a folding soft top instead of the TwinTop's retractable hardtop.

Meet the Adams Family: Buick's Waterfall Grille Plastered on Opel's Premium Mini

Friday, July 13, 2012

Knowing that GM has rebadged a number of Opel models as Buicks since its restructuring in 2009, including the Astra and the Insignia, there was no doubt in our minds that sooner or later, someone would turn Opel's new Adam premium city car into a Buick.

'Automotive manipulator' Theophilus Chin replaced Opel's French mustache-styled chrome piece with Buick's trademark waterfall grille, and well, that's all that was done to the car.

New 2013 Buick Verano Turbo Comes with 250HP and a Choice of Manual or Automatic Transmissions

Tuesday, June 12, 2012

GM surprised us today with the unveiling of a new version of the Buick Verano that not only sports a much more powerful turbocharged engine but for the first time, also gives the option of a manual transmission.

While its understated looks make it seem like the regular 180hp Verano with the only giveaways being a discreet "T" badge, the dual exhaust outlets and a barely visible decklid spoiler, the Turbo is actually faster than the 270hp Regal GS.

A Rare Buick Reatta Meeting in Los Angeles

Thursday, June 7, 2012

The Buick Reatta is one of those cars with some fairly interesting details that only time will tell if it will become a collectable classic.

Presented in coupe form in 1988 with a soft-top convertible following in 1990, the Reatta was Buick's first modern-era two-seater model. Both body styles remained in production until 1991.

Unusually for a mass produced model, the Reatta was hand-built at the Reatta Craft Centre in Lansing, Michigan. Its platform was essentially a shortened version of the GM E chassis used by the Cadillac Eldorado, Oldsmobile Toronado and Buick Riviera, and was shared with the Cadillac Allante.

Thursday, May 24, 2012

Not that there are significant styling differences between the original Opel Insignia and its North American clone, the Buick Regal, other than the front grille and badges, but its uncommon to find an Insignia listed for sale in the U.S., which is why this eBay sale caught our attention. GM Wants Cadillac to Follow in the Successful Footsteps of Buick in China

Tuesday, May 8, 2012

Last year, Buick sold 177,633 vehicles in the States and 645,537 cars in China, with the Excelle, which is the local version of the Verano sedan, taking the first spot overall in the passenger car segment.

Cadillac, on the other hand, delivered 152,389 vehicles in the U.S. but only about 30,000 in the world's most populous country, despite an increase of 73 percent over 2010.

Given China's thirst for luxury products, it is no wonder that General Motors would like to repeat the success of Buick with its flagship brand.

According to General Motors CEO Dan Akerson, who was speaking on the company's first quarter earnings call for 2012, there is a plan in motion to boost Cadillac's sales in China six-fold in the next few years.
