Suzuki to Bring New Pocket-Rocket Swift Sport Concept to the Sydney Motor Show

Thursday, October 11, 2012

Even though Suzuki has already presented a spicy concept of the Swift Sport at the 2011 Geneva Salon, as well as the toned-down, final production model powered by a 1.6-liter petrol engine delivering 134hp (100kW / 136PS), the Japanese marque has prepared another study for the 2012 Australian International Motor Show in Sydney next week (October 19 to 28).

Suzuki tells us that the Swift Sport is a one-off concept designed by the brand's chief engineer Naoyuki Takeuchi.

Suzuki Previews New S-Cross Compact Crossover Concept Ahead of Paris Motor Show Debut

Friday, August 10, 2012

The 2012 edition of the Paris Motor Show in September will host the world premiere of a new concept model from Suzuki named S-Cross, which previews an upcoming production model in the compact crossover segment.

The Japanese automaker released a teaser sketch and a cropped image of the S-Cross that appears to be a thinly disguised concept of the prototype Suzuki we spied in the middle of July and which we rightly noted at the time was a larger model than the current, sub-compact SX-4.

Suzuki Lifts the Covers off New XA ALPHA Small Crossover at New Delhi Auto Show [with Video]

Thursday, January 5, 2012

We were right to assume that Maruti Suzuki would present an off-road concept at this week's Auto Expo 2012 in New Delhi, but the XA ALPHA doesn't appear to preview a replacement for the Jimny 4x4 (or at least not directly) as it leans more towards the crossover segment being based on the platform architecture of the Swift supermini.

Designed in cooperation with Suzuki's Indian partner Maruti, the XA ALPHA borrows several styling cues from the Swift such as the profile window line and the blacked out A-pillars.

The five-door model measures 4 meters in length, which makes it a little bit longer than the current Swift (3,850mm long).

Suzuki Envisions a Global Compact Car with Regina Concept in Tokyo

Wednesday, November 30, 2011

The good thing with concept studies is that reality doesn't have time to sink in during their creation so designers can pretty much do whatever they want. And while Suzuki's Regina concept may not be to everybody's liking, its groovy -almost Citroen-like- styling won't go by unnoticed.

Suzuki says that the Regina embodies its vision of a next-generation global small car featuring a lightweight construction and impressive fuel economy.

The concept is 3.5-metres long and 1.6-metres wide, while it weighs in at just 730kg (1,609 pounds). According to the Japanese automaker, the quirky looking city car has a drag coefficient at least 10% lower than that of current models of the same size and category.

Tokyo Show Preview: Suzuki's Toy-Like Q-Concept Electric Mini Car

Tuesday, November 8, 2011

For those of you that found the Suzuki Regina that we showed earlier today, a bit too down to earth for a Tokyo Motor Show concept, the Japanese automaker has another study up its sleeve. Of course, there's the argument that the Q-Concept looks more like a toy than a real car, but that's another story.

Suzuki's second concept for this year's edition of the Tokyo motorshow is a tiny city car that measures just 2,500mm long, 1,300mm wide and 1,650mm tall.

Despite its compact size, the futuristic looking concept model can accommodate a total of six passengers in three rows of seats. Suzuki didn't release any more details on the R3, but it has been speculated that the concept model may base a production version in the very near future.

Suzuki Alto Dresses Like a Fish for International Green Week Fair in Berlin

Monday, January 4, 2010

Being the only car manufacturer that will participate at the forthcoming International Green Week in Berlin, Suzuki wants to make a splash at the fair with a custom made Alto. The Japanese automaker covered its mini car in a vinyl wrap (or at least it looks like a wrap) with a design that imitates fish scales and to top it off, they also added a... tail fin. Billed as the world's largest fair for food, agriculture and horticulture, the International Green Week runs from January 15 to 24 in Berlin.

Tokyo '09: Suzuki Showcases Swift Plug in-Hybrid and SX4 Fuel Cell Vehicle

Friday, October 23, 2009

At the Tokyo Motor Show, Suzuki exhibited its latest 'green' concept studies for the future including a Swift with Plug-in Hybrid and an SX4 Fuel Cell Vehicle (FCV). The hybrid version of the Swift is a supermini aimed at city dwellers that travel around 20 km (about 13 miles) a day and has been designed to be driven primarily on electric power.

It is equipped with 600cc engine that is used to charge a lithium-ion battery that powers an electric motor if capacity level drops. The batter can also be charged through any domestic plug socket.

Suzuki did not release any performance or fuel economy figures nor did it say if it intends to produce the Swift Plug-in Hybrid in the future.

The other 'green' study on display at Suzuki's Tokyo Motor Show booth is the is the SX4 FCV (Fuel Cell Vehicle) which combines a General Motors-sourced high performance fuel cell with a Suzuki developed high pressure hydrogen tank and a compact capacitor that is used to recover energy during braking and using it to reduce fuel cell loading under acceleration.

The SX4 FCV is currently under test on public roads in Japan as Suzuki plans to to commercialize the car in the near future.
